Native grapes giving unique wines
Founder and passionate ambassador of Collio wines, Sergio Stevanato, is producing some of the most exciting wines of Friuli. His two sons are in charge now. Collio DOC is regarded as an absolute ‘Grand Cru’ teritory for Italian white wines. The vineyard (single terraced vineyard of 10 ha) lays in the hilly province of Gorizia next to the Slovinian border. Yields are very low, with a maximum of 40 hl/ha, to optimise quality. Tenute Stella works only with local grape varieties Friulano, Malvasia, Refosco and Schioppettino. Harvest are being done manually and fermentation is carried out with native yeast only.
